In my SEO Consulting business, I talk to people all the time who have no clue what the purpose of a blog is, and can’t fathom how a blog, will enhance their presence on the internet.

Technorati is an Internet search engine for searching blogs. By June 2008, Technorati was indexing 112.8 million blogs and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media, and was seeing about 120,000 new weblogs being created worldwide each day. That’s about 1.4 blogs created every second of every day. I’m sure these figures has grown substantially since these stats was published.

First of all, I think we need to establish a common knowledge here, of what a blog really is. When in doubt of the meaning of a term used on the internet, I always refer to Wikipedia for their input. The following is a quote from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

“A blog (a contraction of the term “web log”) is a type of web site, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video.

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability of readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (Art blog), photographs (photoblog), videos (Video blogging), music (MP3 blog), and audio (podcasting). Microblogging is another type of blogging, featuring very short posts.”

As you can see, blogging is a very popular way to get information about your product or services, in front of massive amounts of potential users. There are numerous methods of promoting your business opportunities, however, I have found that promoting my blogs on my web site, as well as, promoting my web site on my blogs, has been an excellent way to get Top Positions On Google and other popular search engines.
