Do You Back Up Your WordPress Database?
At times the worst can happen. Your WordPress installation can be hacked or lost. At times your hosting provider might not have a proper backup or only have a really old backup. Valuable time and energy will be lost unless you properly make your own backup just in case.
Normally backing up data is one of the things that most of us neglect to do. It’s just not something we think of until it’s too late. Since we have a problem backing up, it’s best to use systems that automatically backup your data.
There is a free WordPress plugin called WP-DB-Backup. Doing a search inside the WordPress installation or on Google will bring up this plugin. Once you have downloaded it, installed it, and activated it, it’s ready to do it’s magic.
Go to Tools then Backup. When you get to this screen you see a series of check boxes. These are the parts of the database to backup or not. If you aren’t sure what you need and what you don’t, just check all of the options to make sure you have everything.
Under backup options, do the email backup option. This will send your backup to an email box. Under the scheduled backup option, select daily if you update your blog regularly. Then click Schedule Backup.
What this will do is email you your WordPress database on a daily basis. It’s smart to use an email account that is not associated with that host since if the host loses data, it will also lose the backup.
Be sure that you have a manual copy of your theme because this is not backed up as well since this is not part of the database.
Whatever you do it’s important that you have this backup since there are many issues that come up where you will need this database to put your blog back in order.
