16 Free Abobe Air Applications for Designers and Developers
Adobe AIR, which stands for Adobe Integrated Runtime, is a cross-functioning system runtime engine that allows web designers and web developers to create rich internet applications, and Adobe AIR is compatible with Windows, Macs and Linux. Adobe AIR is a very functional and useful system for web designers and web developers because it permits Flash, Flex, JavaScript, HTML and AJAX code to look like traditional desktop applications by running without the Web browser. Adobe has created an official Adobe AIR Marketplace which essesntially trys to show all of the Adobe AIR applications that exist. These applications range from tools useful for designers to developers to bloggers to the average person using the web. These are great tools and applications because they can make our lives as designer and developers easier, and best of all they are free. I have compliled a list of 16 great Adobe AIR applications for you all to use. Remember, this list is not a best of or all inclusive, just ones that I have found to be helpful! Easy to use interface that allows making fast mock-ups or design wireframes in only a few minutes. The features on the free model include: 30+ predefined controls, static images, language support, and flash movies with growing set of ready UI patterns and widgets.
TweetDeck is the leading browser for the real-time and social web, allowing users to connect with Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and MySpace. I personally use this application myself, and it allows me to connect all my social media outputs into one. Great resource!
Boks is an Adobe AIR application that provides a User Interface for Blueprint CSS’s framework. It’s been designed for those who think the Grid System is good, but never really delved into it. This application is worth checking out.
SQLFury is a developer tool written for the Adobe AIR system runtime, and it performs SQL scans of websites to identify any SQL injection issues . SQLFury utilises blind or inband SQL injection techniques to identify vulnerable targets. This is a useful appliaction for anyone who uses SQL, because it can cute your worktime down!
Screen Scales is a program that allows you to drag markers connected by a line that displays the distance between the two points. This program has more features than the average screen caliper program. Pretty Cool!
A WYSIWYG editor for htmlText. Since the html markup used in Flex components that have an htmlText property use a subset of html, you can’t use Dreamweaver or other html editors for WYSIWYG editing. This will help you create your htmlText visually, speeding up the workflow.
Klok is a personal time tracking application that makes it easy for anyone working on multiple clients, projects or tasks to keep track of their hours. In contrast to many time entry applications, Klok is meant for those of us who want to press a button when we start working and another when we stop. This is a very useful application!
ImageSizer is an application built to resize, rotate, optimize and rename a batch of images, outputting them as a single compressed zip file – perfect if you want to e-mail a load of images off your digital camera, or a folder of images – just drag, drop, fiddle with settings and press ‘Compress your images’. Great for designers when working with images.
The Calilper floats above other applications on screen and can be used to measure anything on your monitor.
Lita SQLite Administration Tool
Lita is an administration interface for SQLite databases. Some of the features include the ability to create, rename, delete, and empty tables, encrypt or re-encrypt your databases, easily run, import and export your custom SQL statements and create and delete indices. Very useful application!
This application allows you to import kuler themes directly into Creative Suite 3 Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop. This is a really useful application as well.
Contrast-A allows users to interact with a 3-dimensional RGB color space, experiment with color combinations, check the contrast according to both WCAG 2.0 and 1.0 and see the results for different types of color deficiency. Custom color palettes can be created, printed and saved as Pdf to the user’s desktop.
The Pixus Adobe AIR application is a ruler to measure objects on the screen whien designers and developers are working. I use this application myself, and I really find it helpful in my work.
Color Browser is intended as a way to organize favorite color palettes locally. Since it would be a pain to reproduce palettes you’ve created yourself in Adobe apps, or online with Kuler, or ColourLovers you can import ASE files into the application (note that this was broken in previous versions). There is no limit to the number of colors in a palette, though there are obviously practical limits to what it can show. Thank you to those that have dropped a note, I read every one.
You can use the Desktop Color Finder to search our entire database of nearly 1 million named colors and more than 300,00 user created color palettes. I am sure you can see how this one could be useful. Very cool application!
MockFlow is an online tool to create and share user interface designs for software & websites. This desktop client provides all the features of its web counterpart that includes real-time collaboration, team chat, sitemaps, export, feedback collection, revisions, and it adds offline capabilities and caching, which is really great!
